RHODODENDRON FESTIVAL 2010
INTERNATIONAL RHODODENDRON FESTIVAL 2010 INNAUGURATED.
MANGAN, 25 April: The International Rhododendron Festival 2010 was officially inaugurated today at Singba Rhododendron gate by Chief Guest, His Excellency, Governor of Sikkim, MK Narayanan, before that the Chief Guest offered prayers at Chuba Lakhang Sacred Grove Coordinated by Chief Justice of Sikkim, Barin Ghosh, Speaker Sikkim Legislative Assembly KT Gyaltsen, council of Ministers including Tourism Minister Bhim Dhungel, Power Minister Sonam Gyatso Lepcha along with the Members of Legislative Assembly, Director General of Police, Secretary Tourism, Secretary Forest and the officials of various Department.
Sikkim International Rhododendron Festival 2010, the festival main attraction for the celebration of the Tourism Year 2010 and this festival is the first kind of effort in the entire Indian Himalayan sector, sponsored by Ministry of Development of North East Region and the Ministry of Tourism, Organised by Forest Department in coordination with Tourism Department, Government of Sikkim which is going to be held from 25th April to 15th May at Singba Rhododendron Sanctuary at Yumthang valley in North Sikkim at the altitude of 1800 to 2500 meters where Rhododendrons are found covering the Kanchendzonga National Park, the Rhododendrons rich area spreading over 1784 sq.km.
At the tourism point of view the Tourism Department has provided Helicopter service at Singhik, Teesta Urja Nineth mile helipad for site seen, this has been organised by Singhik Tourism Development Committee (STDC) and for tourist site viewing the service's has been started up to 15th May.
On the same day, HIS Execellency also flag off Mountain biking for 5 kilometers from Phuni to Choybum. His Excellency also inaugurated and witnessed Food Festival at Yumthang, Angling, Exhibition cum souvenir stall at Forest Rest House aand later he inaugurated the Tourist Cafetera at Yumthang.
During his night halt at Lachung, the evening cultural was hosted in his honour by the cultural club of Lachung.
